Welcome Back!

As we begin to close the second week of school I'm so excited to see all of our studetns jumping right back into learning! Teachers are beginning to assess students' current reading levels through the use of running records and county assessments. K-2 students are currently taking the MCPSAP-PR assessment to accurately identify your student's reading level. Over the next few weeks students in grade 3-5 will be taking the map-r assessment. This assessment is given in the computer lab and students work independently to complete the assessment. This test gives teachers a lexile level in order to support the selection of texts for students. This assessment is also used for the county benchmark in reading. Please feel free to ask me questions about these assessments and as always ask your child's teacher as well. Our Literacy PLC will be meeting in a few weeks to determine ways we can support outreach in the area of literacy this school year. Please look for more of this coming soon. I'm thrilled to be back in school and look forward to working with all our students this year. During the next week I will be in many classes doing lessons and introducing myself to students, part of what I loving doing here at Gibbs. Have a great weekend, Mrs. Del Balzo
