How Summer is Flying By!!

Yes we are nearing the middle of July and I am floored by how fast the summer is going. I have been having a wonderful time with my two boys going to the library, pool, Maine, we have been so many wonderful places this summer. I am always amazed at how many different reading opportunities there are all around us. My 4 year old has been picking out letters and beginning to recognize words all throughout this summer. Just making him aware that letters and words are all around him has made him quite the investigator as well as singing all the fun songs of summer! Yes we are a "Call me Maybe" family:-) I advise you to go to youtube and download the Cookie Monster version called "Share it Maybe" it's so adorable and has a great message. Don't let working with your child on their reading skills overwhelm you. Just use the opportunities that world has given you. This week I am trying a new strategy of giving my son list of items at the grocery store and having him find them by their picture and first letter the item starts with. It might take me 5 minutes on the computer but it will keep him busy during the entire visit to the store and to help me keep my sanity while going through the store. Make it easy and make it fun.
