A Little Behind

I have been a little behind in blogging since December. I must make it a point next year to put this on my schedule each week to complete! We are in that time of year again when we are doing our final reading assessments for the year. This week our 3-5 students started taking their final Map-R assessments on the computers. Parents will be recieving a parent report from the county with report card comments this year instead of on from me at the school level. Our K-2 students are getting ready to begin their final reading assessments next week. Both testing windows will go until June 1st. Please make sure you are communicating any questions or comments to teachers or myself if you are unsure about where your child is in their reading progress. As we begin to think of summer reading please remember that summer can also be fun!! Please don't take on the task of making your child read for hours each day. There are tons of things you can do at home to promote literacy that doesn't take time or stress. You can make scavenger hunts for your children to find things around the house, or outside. You can have students make itineraries for places you are going to visit over the summer. You can also have students get books/brochures about places you might be visiting. When you are in the car driving, turn off the dvd players and look out the window, have your child help you with reading the signs or maps along the way. It could be fun to put away the Tom/Tom or Garmin and actually read a map again! Please know that I am always here to talk to you about your child and their progress in reading. I'm also happy to help you create a plan to incorporate reading throughout the summer months! Many hugs, Mrs. Del Balzo
