I was thrilled today to start a new initiative for staff at Gibbs. I was invited to go into a kindergarten and 4th grade classroom to do a lesson on something the students were working on such as retelling and visualizing. I appreciate staff for allowing me to come in so I can get to know all of our Gibbs students better! During the next three weeks I will be heading into different classrooms to teach a short whole group lesson in order to get to know students and reinforce what staff is teaching within the curriculum.
Another exciting point is that more and more books are arriving everyday. If you are a parent with any extra time, I know ha ha:-) I would love to have you in to work on putting grade level stickers and property stamps on all of books. Please email me at anytime to communicate about volunteering.
Testing - Now that testing is over for the fall benchmark we are now in the process of analyzing the data in order to drive our instruction. We spend a lot of time giving assessments to our students so it beneficial for us to use that information to see where we can best support and extend student learning.
Calendar Points:
Oct. 9th - Highly Gifted Center applications are mailed to parents
Oct. 9th - Data entry deadline for fall testing
As always please let me know if there are any questions you have about the reading program at Gibbs. I am also our school's GT Liaison so if you have questions about screening or the highly gifted center application process please let me know.
Have a great week!
Mrs. Del Balzo
