Monday's agenda

Please note that the end of the quarter is this week. I will be doing reportcards on Monday March 30th. If you notice many groups doing the same thing it may be due to the fact that we are finishing up T1 and T3 assessments for the end of the quarter. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me! MSA is still in effect so we are continuing with our alternate schedule for specials!


March 23, 2009
9:20 – 9:30 – Mrs. Del Balzo will go over our agenda and the word of the month. We will read a letter from Mrs. Del Balzo and fix mistakes!

9:30 – 10:15 – Guided Reading
Group 1 – We will introduce a new book and review our sight words for the week. We will watch a short video on a hail storm. We will work to complete a final assessment in reading.

Group 2 – We will review our sight words for the week. We will take a picture walk of a book about frogs and brainstorm what we know about frogs.

Group 3 – We will practice our sight words and take a picture walk of a new story. We will review vocabulary before reading.

10:15 – 10:40 – Whole Group Reading
We will reread our scholastic news on Barack Obama and put events of his life in sequential order. This way we can develop our knowledge of how a text is organized. We will try to focus on important information about the person and not just interesting facts.

10:40 – 11:10- Language:
We will go over our morning work and write down our homework for the evening! We will review our DOL quiz and graph our results.

11:10 – 11:50 - Writing
Students will begin their final writing assessment. Students may begin their graphic organizers or finish publishing final pieces.

11:50 – 12:50 – Lunch/ Recess

12:50 – 1:00- Students will continue to work on final writing pieces or begin their final assessment. At 1:10 put book boxes away and line up at the door with home folders and pencil boxes. Go to Ms. Sheinin’s class for math.


PM Class 1:10 – 3:10

1:10 – 1:30 – Students will come in and go over their language packets and write down their homework in their planners. Students should hand these in when completed.

1:30 – 2:15 –Guided Reading – Each group is a 15 minute rotation.

All groups will complete a short word work activity putting words into ABC order.
Rotations: While students are not meeting with Mrs. Del Balzo they are completing language activities or reading/writing independently.

Group 1 1:30 – 1:45– We will introduce a new text and complete written responses to reading in our T1 and T3 packets.

Group 2 –1:45 – 2:00 -We will introduce a new text and complete written responses to reading in our T1 and T3 packets.

Group 3 – 2:00 – 2:15 - We will introduce a new text and complete written responses to reading in our T1 and T3 packets.

*While students are working on posters Mrs. Del Balzo will be continuing text feature assessments individually.

2:15 – 2:35 – Whole Group Reading
We will review one of the biographies we read last week and put events of the person’s life in sequential order. This will help us understand text organization and structure.

2:35 – 3:15 – Writing
We will begin our final writing assessment. Use strong reasons, opinion statements, and vocabulary!
