Hello you fabulous people!

Today was great because we finished testing and we got to have regular reading groups again:-) I am so thrilled with the progress so many of our students made!

Reading AM - Today in whole group we discussed the word integrate. This was a follow up to the word segregate from yesterday. We discussed how the two words are opposites and read the second part of the article on Dr. Martin Luther King. We talked about how he helped to change the unfair laws so everyone could be integrated instead of segregated. During writing today students worked with a partner to correct a letter I wrote. I made lots of mistakes using capital letters and students had to figure out where to put the capital letters and had to explain why they were make a letter uppercase. For spelling today students reread their poem and looked for more words that had the short u sound in it.

Group 1- We read more of the mystery story about Elliot and the Egyptian artifacts. We are gonig to discuss why Elliot describes Mr. McCorkindale as "grumpy" in the story. Students are going to have to find evidence from the story to explain their thinking.

Group 2- We finished the story "A Bigger Family" and tomorrow we are going to discuss if the title from the story was a good one. Students will have to use evidence from the book to explain their thinking.

Group 3 - We reread the book, "A Big Help" and talked about the problem and solution. Tomorrow we will try to write a sentence about the problem and sentence for the solution.

PM Reading - We did the same thing as the morning group for discussion but our guided groups were different.

Groups 1 and 3 - We finished reading Sword in the Tree students are going to answer some BCR questions starting tomorrow about the story. They will also have the chance to do some extension projects at home next week!

Group 2- We started a new story today and are going to discuss how the characters affected the events in the story. Will the kids be able to help catch the bad guys?????

All in all it was a great day and we would like to say a big welcome to Alexander who joined our morning class. Welcome Alex! Have a great night and remember, reading logs, spelling, and Thursday night reading comprehension sheets are due tomorrow!

Hugs,
Mrs. Del Balzo
