Happy Tuesday!

Hello all! I hope your week has gotten off to a good start. Ours certainly has!

Reading AM- We have been reading non-fiction books and scanning them for text features. Yesterday we found three text features ( pictures, table of contents, and index). Today I modeled how to write a response to a text feature BCR and students tried one as a group. Tomorrow we will have students try one on their own. Students need to share what they learn by using the text feature not what the text feature does. In writing we are finishing our animal research books. Students will be illustrating and adding the final publishing details as the week comes to an end. We will be adding a table of contents, index, and glossary so the work isn't done yet! Keep studying those spelling words for your tests on Friday.


Reading PM- We have been working on text features as well. Yesterday I modeled how to write a response and today students tried writing about two text features in small groups. Tomorrow we will go over responses together and then students will try one on their own. In writing we are finishing up our research and will begin writing our paragraphs. I will be modeling that for them a few times so the see what a paragraph contains. We will hopefully finish our books before the winter holiday!

I know there is a lot going on at home to get ready for the holidays. Believe me, I have a bunch of things to do at my house. I ask that you please continue to do your homework each night and bring it back each day to school. Books students take home each night are used in guided reading groups each day. Without books it hard for students to participate in reading discussions. Thanks for your help with this.
