We are really working hard on main idea and determining the author's message. Today students read another scholastic news and shared facts they learned about the topic. Then students were asked to write on their own what the author's message was. This is a very challenging skill and not one that will be mastered in one or two days. It will take many of us the entire year to determine main idea, but don't worry we will keep at it. Both classes did not get to writing today because of our discussion on main idea. I will adjust our schedule tomorrow so that students get more writing time in than they did today. In spelling we sorted words into different long i spelling patterns. Students should be able to share their spelling patterns with you! We also identified long i words in a poem called, "The Doctor's Line. "

- Be sure to work on the lone i words in your spelling journal. I had some students come in today with long a homework. That was almost 5 weeks ago:-)
