End of a busy week!

Well this is one for the record books. We certainly have been busy. Unfortunately I will be out of school tomorrow attending a funeral for a member of my family. It was unexpected and arrangements were made quickly so there will be a substitute in tomorrow. I went over the agenda with students so they know what to expect. Please, Please let me know if there were any problems during my absence. I don't miss work often so it is difficult for me to be a away from my students.

That being said....
We had a big week of learning. Students worked all week on making connections to stories they have read in class. We are working on stating our connections, identifying the part of the book, and describing how it helps us understand the book. We started the week by just practicing talking about our connections, then we moved on to writing ideas on sticky notes, and finally by today we were writing complete sentences using a graphic organizer. I was so proud. We also began guided reading groups, where I meet with 4-5 students while others are working independently. We are still working on staying focused while the teacher is working with another group. I know we will master it soon.

Homework: Please make sure you are signing your child's reading log each night. I check them each day to see if students are reading at night. If your child reads for 20 consecutive nights they will earn a free Chik-fil-a coupon for free nuggets. They also earn bulldog bones for completing their homework each week. We will begin spelling homework on Sept. 15th. I will speak more to that at Back-To-School Night. Next week I will add one evening of reading comprehension homework that compliments what we are doing in class. I will give that assignment on Wed. or Thurs. of next week so be on the look out in student folders.

I will miss all of you tomorrow, and will see you bright and early Monday morning.

Love,
Mrs. Del Balzo
