Good evening everyone! I hope all had a good day. I know we worked hard in second grade. Here is a recap of what we covered today.
Reading - Students were introduced to making connections to a story they listened to. In my AM class we orally rehearsed our connections to the story. Tomorrow we will try writing them down after rehearsal. A big part of second grade is responding to reading through our writing. Students are not able to simply answer orally anymore. In our PM class students went a step further and tried to write down their ideas on white boards. We shared them at the end of class. We also met in our first guided reading groups today. While I am working with a small group in reading others are working at rotations around the room such as Writer's Journal, Independent Reading, and playing Boggle ( great way to practice spelling)..
Writing - Our focus for the quarter is writing personal narratives. Today we set up our writing folders and began our first target skill of writing topic lists. This way students always have something to write about.
Homework - Tonight as promised students are brining home a reading log for you to sign after they have read to you. They are to read the story in their bag and bring the signed paper and book back tomorrow in the bag. Thank you for your support with this.
Bull Dog Bones - Many of you earned bones today. Great Job! I look forward to handing out more tomorrow.
Love,
Mrs. Del Balzo
