Are you ready to read??
I'm so excited to be a part of the Read - a - Thon kick off this year. Please come out Monday evening from 7-8 pm to hear some of your awesome Gibbs staff read their favorite stories! I won't give mine away but it does have some funny parts and rhyming!!
Our Literacy PLC committee is working hard on developing our knowledge of Common Core State Standards in our meetings after school and planning our outreach events for this year. We are planning to be a part of the Book Fair this year to help parents and students select the best books for their reading level and interest. More to come about that as the Book Fair approaches in December.
Our first round of reading assessments are over for the fall and we are looking forward to seeing great progress when we are start our winter assessment window after winter break.
Please know I'm always here for questions and support about your child and their reading progress. My door and email in box are always open to you and your questions.
Tip of the Month:
Reading outloud to your child shouldn't stop once they start reading. Listening to you read is a great way for them to hear a fluent reader, read with expression, and allows the child to process more of the content of the story since their attention is not on decoding the words, but actually understanding the story. Even your 5th grader enjoys a good read aloud so don't be afraid to read to your child! Everyone loves a good story!!
