Happy Summer

Can we all tell it is summer by the very hot and humid weather? I am just about 3 weeks away from the arrival of our second baby and boy I have to say the heat is making it a bit uncomfortable for me. I hope you are all enjoying the well air-conditioned library and reading wonderful books this summer!
Austin and I have been visiting our public library in Point of Rocks 2-3 times a week and really enjoying all the activities they have to offer, from coloring to the wiggle giggle story hour. You don't have to go far to find great free activities the incorporate reading.
As promised I want to share some of the books we have checked out of the library this summer. This week I am going to share one called, Froggy's Sleepover. We picked out this story because Austin was having his first sleepover with his cousin Kash and we wanted to prepare him for what a sleepover was like. Froggy had to pack a bag with all of this special things for going to bed like a toothbrush, blanket, pajamas, and a special toy to sleep with. As a reading specialist I loved the use of onomatopoeia in the book. They had many words that were sound words throughout the book to help the reader visualize what was happening in the story.
I love finding books that show Austin something new he is going to try. It gives him time to ask questions about things and prepare for a new situation.
Remember you don't have to go far or spend a lot of money to create great learning environments for kids! Keep reading.

Love,
Mrs. Del Balzo
