Beginning a new year!

I hope everyone has had a great first week of school. I know I have really enjoyed meeting all the students and talking with them during lunch, recess, and times I am visiting classrooms. I know many parents are wondering how to help their child develop a life long love of reading, well beginning is easy, it starts with you! If your child sees that you love to read they will naturally want to do it too. Try reading together a night if possible. While your child is doing their homework perhaps you are catching up on reading the newspaper or creating a grocery list for the week. I know I try to multi-task as much as I can:-) Reading doesn't have to be all about books either. You can have your child practice their letters using sidewalk chalk or drawing them with their finger in the sand box. Creating life long readers is about making it fun. If you child loves comic books but not novels it's ok. Their interests will change over time and maybe you could read a novel together! Be your child's best first teacher! Together we will create a strong learning environment at home and at school.
Have a great night.
