Monday's Agenda

Agenda Monday May 18, 2009

9:00 – 9:20 – Breakfast, order lunch, and take attendance. Students should come in unpack and begin working on their morning work while eating their breakfast.

9:20 – 9:30 – Mrs. Del Balzo will go over the calendar and morning message with students.

9:30 – 10: 15 Guided Reading 3 (15 minute) rotations

10:15 – 10:40 Whole Group Reading Time – We will review the why tales from last week and introduce informational reading again using our Scholastic News. We will review what text features are and what their job is. We will preview our Scholastic News for the week.


10:40 – 11:10 – Writing Time – Hand out speeches and have students practice their speech with a partner for 10 minutes. We will also finish writing our folktales from last week.

11:10 – 11:50 – Media - Remember to take your books!

11:50 – 12:50 – Lunch and Recess

12:50 – 1:10 – Have students come in and copy down their homework for the evening in their planners. Then pull groups back to go over their morning work
1:10 –Switch for math

1:10 – 1:30 – Students will come in and copy their homework down in their planners Mrs. D will stamp each planner to show that it has been checked. After students have written down their homework we will go over their beginning work looking at grammatical errors in sentences.

1:30 – 2:15 Guided Reading – While students are not meeting with Mrs. Del Balzo they should be working at their two other stations language and finish work/independent reading.

2:40 – 3:10 – Writing
Allow students to practice their speeches with a partner for about 10 minutes. Mrs. Del Balzo will meet with students in small groups to go over their poetry anthologies and how they are progressing on why tales they began writing last week.

3:10 – Switch back for dismissal. Please make sure the morning class has their zip-locks, spelling journals and folders when they go home.

10:15 – 10:40 – Read the other Why tale and have students complete the story elements sheet with a partner. We have been doing this a lot as a group so they should be fine. If you find they are unable to do it just do it as a class.

10:40 – 11:10 Writing – Finish the writing lesson from yesterday. If they finish have them write another letter about a different book to someone new.

11:10 – 11:50 PE

11:50 – 12:50 Lunch/Recess

12:50 – 1:10 – Have students come in and copy down their homework for the evening in their planners. Then pull groups back to go over their morning work. Group 1 will be ( Priscila, Alexus, Wilmer, Taon, and Timani) Group 2 will be everyone else. While you are working with a group to go over their work the other group should be helping each other check their work.

1:10 – 1:30 – Have students come in and copy their homework down in their planners please stamp each planner to show that you have checked it. After students have written down their homework pass out the beginning work and give students about 5 minutes to try it on their own. Go over the sentences together.

1:30 – 2:15 Guided Reading – While students are not meeting with you they should be working at their two other stations language and finish work/independent reading.

Have them complete the organizer today so they can get ready for the writing portion tomorrow. If they finish the organizer they can illustrate what they are thinking about for their story.

10:15 – 10:30 Go over morning work with each group. Any extra time should be spent studying their packets for their quiz later. Collect all packets before counseling starts.

10:30 – 11:00 – Counseling Lesson

11:00 – 11:15 – Language Quiz –Give out individual quizzes. Read one test to students out loud and then the other. They are very used to this so they can help. Please collect all packets and have students staple their quiz to their packets for the week.

11:15 – 11:50 – Scholastic News (butterflies)
Do the before reading highlighted area
Read magazine to students
Complete the two assignment pages together or independently what ever you think they can handle. You could also do this in a small group while others color pictures of butterflies you choose.

11:50 – 12:50 – Lunch /Recess

12:50 1:00 Pick up from recess and quick bathroom break. We switch early for math today.

1:00 – 1:30 – Go over morning work give time to study and then collect packets and give quiz. You do not need to read any sentences aloud in this class. No one has the accommodation.

1:30 – 2:15 Guided Reading

Give each group their spelling test.

2:40 – 3:10 – Writing Why Tales – Give our their organizers from yesterday and have them write their tales using the same format as the two stories they have heard this week. If they finish they may illustrate them or continue illustrating from yesterday.
