Well we missed the snow but got a ton accomplished today. Students continue to work on test taking strategies and learning how to write persuasively. Today students looked at pictures and determined what was wrong. Tomorrow we are going to write sentences about the problem and why it should be solved. Our spelling for the next two weeks is compound words so students should be doing homework each night.
Reading AM-
Group 1 - We reread our book on clouds and checked our anticipation guide to see if any of our ideas had changed. Then we went on a text feature hunt. Tomorrow we will look at the text features we found and write about what we learned.
Group 2 - We reread our story about the great outdoors and we worked together as a team to complete a story map. Students are going to use the story map to decide whether or not the title was a good one for the story. We will be writing BCRs about it this week.
Group 3- We reread our story about tadpoles and frogs. At the end of our reading we put the life cycle of a frog in order.
Reading PM-
Group 1 and 3- We discussed the events in chapters one and two. Then we shared words that students had trouble with. We realized that by rereading and thinking about the author's message we could often times figure out what the word meant by rereading. Students began reading chapter three and are going to write one question for the group tomorrow.
Group 2- We finished our chapter notes for chapter one and began reading chapter two. Students are going to think about how Gregory is acting and check their anticipation guide to see if Uncle Max is really welcome!
We had a great day and students did a fabulous job as usual. Please make sure you are checking planners and having students complete their homework each evening. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about report cards that came home today.
Hugs,
Mrs. Del Balzo
