Can you believe it...

We have almost had a full week of school! I am so proud that we have all made it:-) We have been getting back on track this week and I am thankful for all of the completed homework and bright smiles throughout the day!

In reading this week both classes have been working on test taking skills. This is the first time students will be taking standardized tests so we want them to be prepared. We are practicing things like reading the questions first. Reading all of the answer choices, rereading passages and more. We are also going over basic skills like only filling in one bubble per question. I know it seems like it should be easy but remember this is the first time students have ever done anything like this so it is important that they have practice. In writing we are all working on our first persuasive writing piece of the quarter. Students selected a picture with a problem in it and are going to write a letter to me stating the problem, why it is a problem and how the problem should be fixed. We are learning to use persuasive language and also letter format. A lot to pack into one quarter to hold on to your snow boots!

During guided reading this week we are working on a new system called "When the cookie crumbles" ask you students about it and see if they can describe the process. I am trying to teach them how to answer written responses to reading. It is something we have been working on all year but it's one of those areas that needs constant improvement. Tomorrow evening ask you child how much of the cookie they got!

See you tomorrow!
Hugs,
Mrs. D.
