Tuesday February 10th

Today we continued to discuss main idea in reading. We worked through another chapter in the book, Animals in Danger and worked as a group to write down facts we learned and determine the main idea of the chapter. Tomorrow students in the PM class will work with a partner using a new book, Animal Senses. Together they will write down facts and determine the main idea of their chapter. We use non-fiction texts to start students with main idea because they are usually straight forward. In writing we are almost finished with our first persuasive writing piece on a problem in a picture. While learning persuasive writing students are also learning the parts of a letter. They should know all five by this point in the week. Keep practicing those spelling words, we will have a test on Friday!

Guided Reading - Students continue to work on BCR writing. Ask them about "The Way the Cookie Crumbs"

In-view testing tomorrow - This is a test given to EVERY second grade student in the county from the Office of Enrichment and Instruction. This test will be on analogies using pictures and qualitative reasoning ( a little bit of math). These tests are designed to be hard and make students think since they are part of the decision tree in determining a GT status. This is one test and one part of the decision making process. I know you will read more about this soon with parent surveys coming home in the spring. If you ever have any questions please don't hesitate to contact the school. We are always here to help you understand the educational system. I know I get confused sometimes and I am part of it:-) Please let me know if you need clarification on any subject or topic. If I don't have the answer I will find out what it is!

Have a great night and please get to school on time tomorrow. Testing will begin right at 9:30!
Hugs,
Mrs. Del Balzo
