Look at me 2 days in a row! I hope everyone is having a great week. I am so excited about the progress students are making each day. Remember to read each night and bring back your ziplocks! Also please welcome Jacob to our class. He started just this morning and part of our homeroom and AM reading class. Welcome Jacob!
Reading - AM
We began the day with guided reading as usual. I met with all three groups and we are continuing to work on decoding and sight word recognition. I am going to make adjustments to our groups tomorrow so that we can move some students into more challenging text, how exciting. After guided reading we met on the carpet to continue our discussion on cause and effect. Students read three sentences and identified the cause and effect in each sentence. Tomorrow we will sort them into categories. During writing we met in small groups to continue our animal research. We are learning how to take notes and not copy right out of a book. We only want to use words we can read ourselves! I look forward to working with students on writing a paragraph about their animal soon! After we came in from recess we went over our morning work and read a poem with short A words. Keep studying those spelling words!
Reading - PM
We began our afternoon by going over our grammar packet. Then we split into guided reading groups. I am currently doing progress monitoring on reading levels so students are working on BCR writing while I am reading individually with students. After guided reading we met on the carpet to discuss our cause and effect sentences. We shared our individual sentences from yesterday and students read 3 sentences and identified the cause and effect of each sentence. During writing students received their own article from Encyclopedia Brittanica on an animal they chose yesterday. We are learning to take notes and then we are going to put our research into complete paragraphs to make a book about our animal. This will take some time and students will be required to use different resources, so hang tight on this project! We discussed spelling homework and dismissed for the day.
See you tomorrow!
Love,
Mrs. D.
