I know we are all excited about our upcoming break for Thanksgiving, but I do want to say we WILL be working during our time in school! Although we have a lot to do, I have some fun things planned to help us practice our reading skills and learn a bit about Thanksgiving!
Reading AM and PM
This week we will work on our guided reading lessons and in whole group we will be evaluating titles for stories. On Monday I will read Clifford's Thanksgiving, a story about our favorite big red dog. Students will evaluate whether or not the title is appropriate for the story. If they think the title is not a good one they will have to come up with one that they feels fits the main idea of the story. Even if students agree that the title is a good one they will have to share why using details from the story. During writing students will learn some basic facts about Thanksgiving and put them into booklets! We are continuing to write to inform our audience. Spelling this week will be a review. Students will go back over their tests and lists to pull out words they have either gotten wrong or words they want to practice again! There will not be a test but I want students to know that even if they get a word wrong on a spelling test they should revisit it and try again.
PM Writing - Students will publish their pieces on writing about a place. We missed last Thursday due to our Strathmore trip so we are a day or so behind the morning class.
I do hope you all take time during this busy holiday season to be "grateful" (our word of the month) for all that we have. I am thankful to come in and teach my students each day and watch them learn and grow. I hope you all have a safe and happy holiday!
Love,
Mrs. Del Balzo
