Happy Holidays!

Well I hope everyone had a great holiday, now it is back to work for all of us! I am going to make this short and sweet so I can get back the last little bit of turkey we have in the house:-)

Objectives for the week:

AM Reading/Writing/Language Arts -
We will be reading and finding cause and effect relationships in texts. To do this we will use the George and Martha series. These stories are short and straight forward which makes the students very successful with the concept of finding cause and effect relationships. In writing we will be starting our research projects and working on our handwriting. Students will work with a partner to locate information about an animal and take notes about it. Then we will put our notes into sentences and finally into a book about the animal. Please know this will NOT get done all in one week. In language we will continue to identify different types of sentences (command, statements, questions, and exclamatory). Spelling for the next two weeks will be short a sounds. I will differentiate by spelling development.

PM Reading/Writing/Language Arts -
We will also be identifying cause and effect relationships but we will be trying it in guided reading groups through our discussions. I will also model for students and have them work in cooperative groups together so they can discuss relationships they find in text. In writing students will be selecting an animal to research. I will be helping them develop questions so they can conduct their research. We will also be working on writing paragraphs with this written piece. The PM class will also be working on short a sounds. I have developed a much more challenging list this time around. Please let me know if your child is having difficulty with the words prior to their spelling test on December 12th. For language we will be working on identifying different sentences and punctuating a paragraph.

I hope everyone had a great holiday and spent a lot of time with family. I know I was extremely lucky to do so! Hugs to all, and I can't wait to see you tomorrow!

Love,
Mrs. Del Balzo
