Happy Election Day!

I hope all of you were able to go out and vote today. I know I was lucky, so it only took about 5 minutes to get in and out of our polling place. That's one of the perks of living in the country.
Here is what is on tap for the rest of our short week.

Wednesday-Friday
Reading - Introduction to book talks. Mrs. Del Balzo will model how to give a book talk and students will create a criteria sheet. Next week students will work with Ms. Samet to design a book talk and practice it. We will try and video tape them on DVD. By Friday we will be moving on to making meaningful predictions when it comes to reading a story. Students need to be able to create REASONABLE predictions using information they have learned in the story or from taking a picture walk.

Writing- This quarter we will be writing to inform. Students will be writing a piece about a favorite place they have been. We will be working on adding a lot of detail in order to create a strong mental image for our reader. We continue to work on spelling high frequency words correctly as well as phonetic spelling.

Language- We will be working on verbs for the next few days. Students have already completed rotations for nouns. We will also continue our daily language correcting sentences and taking our quizzes on Friday.

Spelling- We will finish up long o by finding words in texts. I have magazines the students are going to be hunting through to find words with the long o patterns we have been working with. We will post and sort them by the end of the week. Spelling tests will be on Friday, don't worry we will practice a lot in class since not all students took their spelling journals home after the Halloween party last Friday.

Important!
Next week is parent conferences. I will be sending reminder slips home Thursday. If for some reason you are unable to make your time, please let us know. We can do a phone conference or meet another time for your convenience.
