Thurday Holiday!

Hi Friends! I hope we are all enjoying this beautiful day off. How lucky we are to get a day of relaxation.

Just wanted to bring you up to date on our week.

Reading -
Students have been working hard on identifying text features and explaining what they are learning. This is a challenging concept, if your child had trouble with the homework I sent home, just right me a note and I will continue to work on it with them in class. Text features are things like (bold print, index, title, glossary, captions, headings, maps) and other things authors use to create a meaningful message. We look at text features in non-fiction texts during this quarter. Newspapers are a great way to practice this skill. Just lay out the newspaper on the floor and have your child circle the text features they found with a marker, crayon, or highlighter. You will be amazed at what they know!

Writing-
Our writing is coming along this week although a bit slower than I had hoped. We had a little trouble with our graphic organizer which was a learning point for me! I will adjust it next time I give an assignment like that ( I am always learning too!). Hopefully, students will finish by early next week so we can begin preparing for our final writing assessment.

Spelling -
Even with our day off we will have a spelling test on Friday so study those long e words.

Please make sure to bring back your interims and permission slips for Strathmore that were sent home! I will be making calls and emails for students that have not turned in interims by tomorrow. Enjoy your day!

Love,
Mrs. Del Balzo
