Monday

Hello all! I hope you are enjoying the weather, boy did it rain hard yesterday. Here is a heads up for the coming week.

Reading -
Monday - We will continue identifying fact and opinion statements. Students will look for key words to highlight that makes a word an opinion.

Tuesday - We will begin investigating poetry and the author's "BIG" message. We will also discuss imagery and begin drawings based on the poems.

Wednesday - We will continue with poetry locating key words that share the author's message. Mrs. Del Balzo will model how to write a reading response.

Thursday - We will practice reading responses on our own sharing what message the author was trying to communicate to us.

Friday - We will score our reading responses and make goals for what we can do better next time. The afternoon class will not meet on Friday due to the Halloween party.

Writing- This week we are really just going to be working on our final assessments. In quarter two we will be writing for information and students will be learning how to use different informational tools to add to their writing.

Spelling -
Monday - Introduce long o and brainstorm words. Students will glue their lists and homework into their journals.

Tuesday - We will sort long o words into spelling patterns and make generalizations.

Wednesday - We will begin sharing poems with long o words in them and find words in texts.

Thursday - We will continue to share poems with the long o pattern.

Friday - We will practice our spelling words with a partner.

Language - Each day students work on their language skills by correcting sentences. On Friday they have a quiz on the different language rules learned during the week. We are working on using apostrophes correctly. It seems like once we introduce it apostrophes are in ever word:-)

Reminders for the week:
1. Please have donations for the part in by Wednesday.
2. Sign up for parent conferences if you have not yet.
3. No school next Monday or Tuesday for students.
4. Put money in lunch accounts.
5. Dress for the weather!!!

Have a great rest of the day!
Love,
Mrs. Del Balzo
