Wow have we been working hard this week. Students are really developing their comprehension skills and knowledge of story elements. I hope you are all enjoying your books each night.
To end the week students will be doing a culminating activity for our story elements. I will be asking students to divide a piece of paper in four sections and identify the characters, setting, problem, and solution of a text that I read aloud to them. Students will have to do this on their own and it will be graded. I know all are going to do great. I am stressing to students how important it is to try your best on all assignments not just graded ones:-)
We are beginning another writing piece on personal narratives. Students are meeting with me individually to begin writing about a time they have strong memories about. Our goal is to have students put as much detail in their writing as possible. So if they are writing about their vacation to the beach I am trying to get them to narrow their idea down to just one part of the trip instead of the whole thing. That way they can describe how the water felt, or the salt water tasted in their mouth, or the amazing sand castle they might have built!
During guided reading many students are working on their written responses to reading. This again is a huge skill that students will need from her until the end of their school careers:-)
As always if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to give me a call at school or email me!
Love,
Mrs. Del Balzo
