That must be why I haven't been able to get back to my blog. Between testing and meetings it has been very challenging to find a minute to post a new blog for you. I will continue to try to make it a priority for communication and updates about what is going on in reading. Right now we are gearing up for MSA! Students, teachers, and other support staff have been working all year to prepare students for this very important time of the year. If you have not heard a lot about things going on at school to prepare it's because we have been doing it all year long. Yes, we are that good:-)In MCPS our curriculum really prepares students for this assessment with just good instruction and strong content. Test prep although a bit is good too much can build anxiety which we don't want to do. For those parents of second graders your time will come don't worry! TN2 will be given in April. For those of you not aware TN2 is measures progress in reading, language, and math. It is entirely multiple choice and students with IEPs do recieve their accomodations. MSA mesures those same areas, however there are multiple choice and written response questions that need to answered. There are parent information sent home once scores come in but that will not be until close to the end of the year. So that's it for standardized tests for now.
On to other topics;
I was so happy to present Global Screening information at the PTA meeting this week. Parents asked wonderful questions and I really appreciate your support and understanding in that it's our first year going through this process so there will be some bumps along the way. I am trying to attache the power point I presented the other night in order to help anyone that might have missed the presentation. I'm not a tech person though so it might take me a day to get it up. Since we had so much snow our test scores will not be back until the middle to end of May. Therefore you may not hear about identification for your child until June. This is out of our control since we do send our tests away to be scored by McGraw Hill.
Reading Levels- Please continue to discuss reading levels with your child's teacher. There is a huge bonus to communication, you and the teacher both get to be on the same page. If you ever need list or choices of books that are on your child's level please feel free to contact me as I would be happy to put those together for you.
That's all for now althoug there is so much more. Remember, make reading fun!
Erin
