New Year Begins Fast

It is hard to believe that it's already January 14th. We are all so happy to have our students back and into their regular schedules again. I just wante to make you aware of a couple of things this week reguarding testing int the building. Currently, our K-2 teachers are adminstering the m-class reaidng 3-D assessment that we give three times a year to our students. Each individual child is assessed by their reading teacher so we can document the growth they have made so far during the year and update their current reading level. Our window goes until Feb. 5th so teachers are working hard to get each child through their assessment. Towards the end of the month our 3rd and 4th graders will be taking their second round of Map-R testing. If you remember this is a computerized reading test that tailors itself to each child. All students will take this assessment as a class in the computer lab. I have assigned each homeroom teacher a day they will bring their class down for testing. This particular assessment takes about an hour for students to complete. Foru our second graders we will be starting the Global Screening process beginning in Feburary. I will post more information about this as it gets closer to our time of testing. If you ever have any questions about the assessment your child takes during the year please feel free to contact me here at school.

As we begin this new year please continue to stay in contact with us here at Gibbs. We are here to provide your child with the best education possible, so if you every have any quetions about curriculum, testing, or other activities that take place here at school please contact us.

Tip of the Week:
Does you child rail against reading chapter books? Well it's ok to give them a break! Short picture books can often lend themselves to serious content and discussions. Also, comics are a great way to get your child using their inferencing strategies. Inferencing is a higher level thinking stratagy that has students sharing their own interpretation of what is happening.
